Piers and columns are fundamental to construction and are classified by the shape of the concrete structure: round end pier, rectangular pier, portal pier, and frame pier.
In railway engineering, the round-end pier column is predominant, encompassing hyperbolic piers, corbel piers (heaven and earth circle/upper circle and lower circle), hollow piers, and more. These formworks are typically reinforced with tie rods or trusses.
The selection of formwork material is informed by mechanical model calculations. The manufacturing process for pier column formwork significantly diverges from standard combined steel formworks. Typically, the construction unit provides component design drawings, which are then used by formwork designers to create the final product.
