Piers and columns, the backbone of construction, are classified by the shape of the concrete body: round end pier, rectangular pier, portal pier, and frame pier.
In railway engineering, the round-end pier column is the most prevalent type, including hyperbolic piers, corbel piers (heaven and earth circle/upper circle and lower circle), hollow piers, and more. These formworks are usually reinforced using tie rods or trusses.
The choice of formwork material is based on rigorous mechanical model calculations. The manufacturing process for pier column formwork is markedly different from that of standard combined steel formworks. Generally, the construction unit provides component design drawings, which are then transformed by formwork designers into the final product.
