Piers and columns are fundamental to construction and are classified based on the shape of the concrete body: round-end pier, rectangular pier, portal pier, and frame pier.
In railway engineering, the round-end pier column is the most prevalent, including hyperbolic piers, corbel piers (heaven and earth circle/upper circle and lower circle), and hollow piers. These formworks are typically reinforced with tie rods or trusses.
