Piers and columns are fundamental elements in construction, categorized based on the shape of the concrete body into types such as round end pier, rectangular pier, portal pier, and frame pier.
In railway engineering, the round-end pier column is the predominant type, encompassing variations like hyperbolic piers, corbel piers (heaven and earth circle/upper circle and lower circle), hollow piers, and more. These specialized formworks are typically reinforced using tie rods or trusses.
The selection of formwork material is guided by meticulous mechanical model calculations. The manufacturing process for pier column formwork is distinctly different from that of standard combined steel formworks.
