Piers and columns are fundamental elements in construction, classified by the concrete body's shape into round end pier, rectangular pier, portal pier, and frame pier.
In railway engineering, the round-end pier column is the predominant type, including hyperbolic piers, corbel piers (heaven and earth circle/upper circle and lower circle), hollow piers, among others. These formworks are generally reinforced using tie rods or trusses.
Formwork material selection is guided by mechanical model calculations. The manufacturing process for pier column formwork deviates significantly from standard combined steel formworks.
